In the bi-dimensional parameter space of driven oscillators, shrimp-shaped periodic windows are immersed in chaotic regions. For two of these oscillators, namely, Duffing and Josephson junction, we show that a weak harmonic perturbation replicates these periodic windows giving rise to parameter regions correspondent to periodic orbits. The new windows are composed of parameters whose periodic orbits have the same periodicity and pattern of stable and unstable periodic orbits already existent for the unperturbed oscillator. Moreover, these unstable periodic orbits are embedded in chaotic attractors in phase space regions where the new stable orbits are identified. Thus, the observed periodic window replication is an effective oscillator control process, once chaotic orbits are replaced by regular ones. 2011 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Frequency–driven chaos in the electrical circuit of Duffing-Holmes oscillator and its control
Accurate detection of weak periodic signals within noise and possibility of secure messaging have made Duffing oscillator (DO) highly important in the field of communication. Investigation on the properties of DO is thus ardently sought for. An elegant approach to accomplish the same is to fabricate electronic circuit simulating DO non-linear equation and to study the effect of input signal amp...
متن کاملPhase locking route behind complex periodic windows in a forced oscillator.
Chaotic systems have complex reactions against an external driving force; even in cases with low-dimension oscillators, the routes to synchronization are diverse. We proposed a stroboscope-based method for analyzing driven chaotic systems in their phase space. According to two statistic quantities generated from time series, we could realize the system state and the driving behavior simultaneou...
متن کاملCONTROL OF CHAOS IN A DRIVEN NON LINEAR DYNAMICAL SYSTEM
We present a numerical study of a one-dimensional version of the Burridge-Knopoff model [16] of N-site chain of spring-blocks with stick-slip dynamics. Our numerical analysis and computer simulations lead to a set of different results corresponding to different boundary conditions. It is shown that we can convert a chaotic behaviour system to a highly ordered and periodic behaviour by making on...
متن کاملTopology of Windows in the High-Dimensional Parameter Space of Chaotic Maps
Periodicity is ubiquitous in nature. In this work, we analyze the dynamical reasons for which periodic windows, that appear in parameter space diagrams, have different shapes and structures. For that, we make use of a dynamical quantity, called spine — the skeleton of the window, in order to explain a conjecture that describes the presence of periodic windows in the parameter space of high-dime...
متن کاملSome New Analytical Techniques for Duffing Oscillator with Very Strong Nonlinearity
The current paper focuses on some analytical techniques to solve the non-linear Duffing oscillator with large nonlinearity. Four different methods have been applied for solution of the equation of motion; the variational iteration method, He’s parameter expanding method, parameterized perturbation method, and the homotopy perturbation method. The results reveal that approxim...
